So you may have heard me mention in a previous post that getting a service dog is not easy and it's not cheap. We had previously been on a wait list with an agency who basically covered all of the costs of a service dog, alleviating that struggle from the family. But as you can imagine- everyone wanted on that list and the wait list was 2.5-3 years long for an Autism Service Dog. Along came our current situation where the cost was substantially larger (keep in mind, yet so much smaller than other service dog training groups where $25,000+ wasn't unheard of). We are looking at the $12,000 range. We knew up front we would need help with this endeavor financially- which was hard for us to ask help.
We have had a couple of fundraising opportunities over the last month or so. Our custom-made t-shirt fundraiser just wrapped up yesterday and was more amazing than I could have imagined. We sold 74 shirts and raised $746.18! Like I said, amazing. We have also had an online fundraiser running from the beginning and will likely keep that going through the training of the dog: https://www.youcaring.com/charlieking-801310
We are so thrilled with people's willingness to help. We will continue to have fundraisers over the coming months to help us get to our goal amount and bring Sunny home after her training is complete. Some upcoming events you may be interested in:
LulaRoe Fundraiser: Online 6/8 and in person 6/12 in Rochester, MN
Multi-Family Garage Sale: June 22-24 in Harmony, MN and then June 29-July1 in Rochester, MN
If you want specific details on either of these fundraising events, please connect with me (either here, FB, or email: kayla.king17@gmail.com) and I will be happy to get you the information you need. We are constantly working on more ideas for further down the road so stay tuned!
